Activity Report: Volunteer Visit to Tărgușor School

Date: 30 April 2025
Time: 12:00 – 14:00
Location: Tărgușor School, Constanța County
Organized by: Tărgușor School, Dave Haas (The Salvation Army & Rotary Club), and the US Army

Overview:

On Tuesday, 30 April, a team of 26 American soldiers, coordinated by and including U.S. Army Chaplains, visited Tărgușor School in Constanța County as part of a volunteer outreach program coordinated in partnership with Dave Haas of The Salvation Army & Rotary Club and the school principal and teachers. The event engaged 60 students in grades 5–8 (ages 10–14) in a series of educational and recreational activities focused on cultural exchange, environmental care, and team building.

Activities:

The event was divided into three main activity stations, with soldiers and students split in groups to ensure full participation:

  1. Beautification of School Grounds:

Volunteers and students worked side-by-side to plant flowers and trees across the school’s front yard and gazebo in the back yard, contributing to a cleaner and greener environment. This hands-on activity fostered teamwork and encouraged environmental stewardship.

  2. Language & Arts Corner:

Students played interactive word games designed to improve their English language skills, guided by Americans. The group also created handmade bookmarks, which allowed for creativity and personal expression.

  3. Sports & Games:

The final station focused on physical activity and cross-cultural interaction through friendly matches of American Football and Soccer (Football). These games encouraged communication, sportsmanship, and fun, regardless of language barriers.

Impact:

These visits leave a meaningful impression on the students and teachers of Tărgușor School, who warmly welcome the volunteers. The day offered a unique opportunity for the children to practice English in an informal setting, learn about American culture, and engage in positive, uplifting activities with role models.

Acknowledgments:

Special thanks to the school principal and staff for their coordination, the U.S. Army Chaplains for their support and leadership, and Dave Haas, representing The Salvation Army & Rotary Club, for facilitating the partnership and organizing the day’s schedule.
