16 JUN 2025 - Targusor Activity: Sport & Paracord Bracelets

Activity Report: Volunteer Visit to Tărgușor School

Date: 16 June 2025
Time: 12:00 – 14:00
Location: Tărgușor School, Constanța County
Organized by: Tărgușor School, Dave Haas (The Salvation Army & Rotary Club), and the US Army

Overview:

On Monday, 16 June, a team of approximately 12 American soldiers, coordinated by and including U.S. Army Chaplains, visited Tărgușor School in Constanța County as part of a volunteer outreach program coordinated in partnership with Dave Haas of The Salvation Army & Rotary Club and the school principal and teachers. The event engaged approximately 45 students in grades 5–8 (ages 10–14) in a combination of hands-on craft and recreational activities focused on cultural exchange, creativity, and team building.

Activities:

The event was divided into two main activity stations, with soldiers and students split into groups to ensure full participation:

  1. Paracord Bracelet Making:

Volunteers guided students through the process of weaving paracord bracelets, teaching them the techniques step by step. This hands-on activity allowed for creativity and personal expression, while also providing an opportunity for informal conversation and English-language practice. Each student was able to take home their finished bracelet as a memento of the day.

  2. Sports & Games:

The second station focused on physical activity and cross-cultural interaction through friendly matches of American Football and Soccer (Football). These games encouraged communication, sportsmanship, and fun, regardless of language barriers.

Impact:

These visits leave a meaningful impression on the students and teachers of Tărgușor School, who warmly welcome the volunteers. The day offered a unique opportunity for the children to practice English in an informal setting, learn about American culture, and engage in positive, uplifting activities with role models.

Acknowledgments:

Special thanks to the school principal and staff for their coordination, the U.S. Army Chaplains for their support and leadership, and Dave Haas, representing The Salvation Army & Rotary Club, for facilitating the partnership and organizing the day's schedule.
