24 SEP 2024 - Back to School Supplies Activity

On September 24, 2024, a heartwarming initiative brought together 23 soldiers from the U.S. Army Chaplains, Dave Haas from The Salvation Army, and Eugen Simion, a dedicated volunteer and co-coordinator. Their mission? To provide essential school supplies to 52 children in grades 0-4 at the Targusor school, ages 6-11.

This marks the fourth year of collaboration with the school, demonstrating a long-term commitment to supporting the local community. The soldiers' generosity helped level the playing field for children from underprivileged families, providing them with the necessary tools to succeed in school. Every child received a thoughtfully curated backpack, filled with supplies that reflected their individual interests and favorite colors.

The teachers played a vital role in this initiative, gathering information about each child's preferences. This personal touch ensured that every student received a unique set of supplies, featuring their beloved characters and colors. The smiles on their faces said it all – a testament to the power of community and the spirit of giving.

But the surprise didn't end there. In a touching display of gratitude, the students colored thank-you letters to the soldiers. These not only expressed their appreciation for the gifts but also acknowledged the soldiers' service and sacrifices, thanking them for being present in Romania.

This initiative not only supports the educational journey of these young minds but also fosters a sense of belonging and connection. It's a shining example of how people from different cultures and nationalities can come together to make a positive impact.

By continuing to support the Targusor school community, we hope to inspire a brighter future for these children, one where education and opportunity know no bounds. The soldiers' selfless act, combined with the students' heartfelt appreciation, serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of community, gratitude, and the human spirit.
