Description:
The celebration of the 134th anniversary of the school took place on 22 May 2023.
American volunteers from MK, teachers, and children separated into 9 teams and participated in a series of activities as described below.
Students learned socially appropriate ways of relating, communicating, and collaborating, through activities that encouraged movement and sport, in general, in an attractive, fun, and interactive way, for a healthy life.
They began by working in teams, learning geography about specific countries; flags, continents, and information related, and together created a unique team flag and team name.
They separated into various activities and all participated and completed: an obstacle course, egg & spoon race, three-legged race, bag hopping race, jump rope & hula hoop, parachute game, and tie-dye craft station.
The teams were formed randomly, to promote the acceptance of diversity and the increase of tolerance towards the differences between the participants. Thus, the teams were mixed, made up of adults and children, Americans and Romanians, and age, sports skills, physical appearance, and spoken language did not constitute criteria for team formation.
The sports stations were completed by thinking tests, with the theme of bullying prevention, students were given scenarios about bullying, to encourage discussion about learning ways to discourage bullying, awareness of it, and how to address it. With a mixture of ages, were also less complex questions for younger children, about geography with scrambled words and filling in the blank for a sentence.
Parents provided local traditional food for lunch/snack; sarmale and gogoși (donuts).
In the end, there was 1st place team awarded a trophy, and meant to be placed in the school for future Field Day activities, and all students received a medal and certificate for participation, and volunteers medals also.
The energy overall was positive, with children and adults sharing ways to encourage positivity and working together to encourage healthy habits, both physical and emotional.
